Pedestrian Struck By Postal Van in San Diego

A 58-year-old pedestrian was struck and injured by a westbound postal truck on January 9, 2012, around 3:45 p.m. on Gramercy Drive at Sandrock Road in Serra Mesa. According to San Diego police, the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by the postal vehicle.

The victim suffered a broken leg, bleeding in the brain, and severe shoulder injury in this serious pedestrian accident. The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

San Diego Police Department Officer Jane Jacobsen said that the van driver told investigators that his vision had been blocked by a pickup truck, which was turning into a driveway, just before the crash took place. From the present facts, it is unclear as to how this pedestrian accident occurred. Was the motorist distracted? Or was he speeding?
