Children Killed, Parents Injured in Mountain Pass Rollover Accident

15-year-old Sonya De Anda Martinez and six-year-old Jesus De Anda Martinez were killed in a tragic rollover car crash that took place on the morning of April 28 on Interstate 15 near Mountain Pass. According to San Bernardino County Coroner’s officials, the family’s Ford Explorer began to swerve and left the roadway.

The Explorer overturned numerous times and came to rest on its wheels about 200 feet from the freeway. Both Sonya and Jesus sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Children’s parents sustained major injuries and were immediately transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment of their injuries.

The investigating officers need to determine whether the loss of control was due to negligence or any vehicular malfunction.

The victim’s family members may file a wrongful death claim against the manufacturer to obtain compensation to cover funeral and burial costs, loss of love, care and companionship, and other related damages if a vehicle malfunction is found to be the cause. The injured victims can file a personal injury claim to obtain compensation to cover treatment, medical and hospital costs.
