A six-year-old girl and her aunt were struck and injured in a serious car accident that occurred on October 10‚ 2011‚ around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Menlo Avenue and University Avenue in City Heights. According to San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division‚ the girl and her aunt were crossing the street when they were hit by a woman driving a grey Honda Accord.
The girl sustained serious head injuries and was immediately transported to Rady Children’s Hospital. The female pedestrian was also seriously injured and was taken to Sharp Memorial hospital for her minor injuries.
The Honda driver told police that she was driving east on University Avenue when she was blinded by the sun and failed to see the pair in the crosswalk. It is evident that the negligent driving of the Accord driver led to this serious car wreck. If she was blinded by the sun‚ she should have halted or at least slowed down until she could see directly in front of her.
