A 41-year-old Santee man was killed in an Alpine motorcycle accident that occurred on August 9‚ 2011‚ on around 9 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) west of Tavern Road. According to the California Highway Patrol officers‚ the biker was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson eastbound and rear-ended 2001 international semi.
The 51-year-old truck driver Mario Solis told said he heard a noise from the back of the truck‚ pulled over‚ and saw the injured biker. The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Investigating officers told that there were no indications of drugs and alcohol contributing to this fatal motorcycle crash.
Now the investigating officers need to determine what led to this collision. If it is found that the biker lost control of the bike due to a bike malfunction‚ then the motorcycle manufacturer will be held liable for victim’s wrongful death. The biker was wearing a helmet‚ though it was not a type approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
