One man suffered serious injuries in a car accident that occurred on December 26, 2011, around 1:45 a.m. on I-5 just north of state Route 905 (SR-905). According to California Highway Patrol officer Jesse Udovich, the victim had a flat tire and was waiting for assistance when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver.
The drunk driver Raul Hernandez was travelling northbound when his vehicle struck a Chevrolet Malibu parked on the right shoulder. The collision made the Malibu overturn several times. The victim had to crawl out of the wreck and suffered a cut on his head.
Hernandez was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of drunken driving. From the present information, it appears that the negligent driving and irresponsible actions of the motorist led to this serious car wreck that left one person seriously injured.
Hernandez will most likely be found to have violated California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a) which states that “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”
